Opening concert of Eskisehir Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orcherstra

EskisehirThe first concert of Istanbul European Choir in autumn 2008 will be the seasonal opening of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orcherstra. The concert, at which Carl Orff's famous masterpiece Carmina Burana will be performed, will be conducted by Ender Sakpınar and soloists will be Soprano Birgül Su Arıç and Bariton Güvenç Dağüstün. Our choirmaster is Gökçen Koray as always.

Place: Büyükşehir Belediyesi Sanat ve Kültür Sarayı. Muttalip Caddesi, Necatibey Parkı yanı.
Date: Saturday 18th, October 2008
Time: 8 pm

In November we will meet the Eskişehir audience once again, at the opening concert of 14th International Eskişehir Festival. This concert will be held on November 8th, 2008 and we will accompany Eskişehir M. M. Symphony Orchestra conducted by Naci Özgüç, on Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th symphony.

 
Carl Orff's Carmina Burana
ImageCarmina Burana also known as the Burana Codex is a manuscript collection, now in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich, of more than 1000 poems and songs written in the early 13th century.
The Latin title Carmina Burana or Songs of Beuern was assigned by Johann Andreas Schmeller in 1847.

Carl Orff
ImageCarl Orff (July 10, 1895 – March 29, 1982) is a 20th-century German composer, most famous for Carmina Burana (1937). He was also successful and influential in the field of music education. Orff was born in Munich, Germany and came from a Bavarian family that was very active in the German military.

L. van Beethoven, 9th Symphony
ImageThe Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 is the last complete symphony composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Completed in 1824, it includes part of the Ode An die Freude ("Ode To Joy") by Friedrich Schiller, with text sung by soloists and a chorus in the last movement. It is the first example of a major composer using the human voice on the same level with instruments in a symphony.

Ludwig van BeethovenLudwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), the second-oldest child of the court musician and tenor singer Johann van Beethoven, was born in Bonn. Ludwig's father drilled him thoroughly with the ambition of showcasing him as a child prodigy. Ludwig gave his first public performance as a pianist when he was eight years old.

Puccini's Messa di Gloria

ImageThough Giacomo Puccini is famous for his contribution to the world of opera through such works as La Boheme, Tosca, Madame Butterfly and Turandot, he actually began his musical career playing and composing church music.

The son of a well known composer and organist, he followed the family tradition, becoming organist of San Martino in Lucca, Italy, at the age of 14.

Giacomo Puccini (1858 - 1924)

Image(born Lucca, 22 December 1858; died Brussels, 29 November 1924).
After studying music with his uncle, Fortunato Magi, and with the director of the Instituto Musicale Pacini, Carlo Angeloni, he started his career at the age of 14 as an organist at St. Martino and St. Michele, Lucca, and at other local churches. However, a performance of Verdi's Aida at Pisa in 1876 made such an impact on him that he decided to follow his instinct for operatic composition.
